Turning 26 in Nov 2014, what next??

My son turns 26, Nov 2014, does he have to get insurance now or can he wait until this Nov? Isn't Nov in the normal open enrollment time frame? Does losing his insurance count as a "qualifying life event"? What is the best choice for him? Thanks in advance for any help.

@Marie298,
Yep, his turning 26 would qualify for him to sign up regardless of what month his birthday is in because he would be usually be kicked off the family policy at that time (SOME companies will keep the child until the end of the year s/he turns 26, but this is an exception, not the rule so do double check with the company directly. Also make sure you are talking to someone there who really knows his/her stuff so you don't get the wrong answer.) So it is a qualifying life event under the category of loss of essential coverage. November 15, 2014 will be the start of the normal open enrollment, to end February 15, 2015.
