Unable to type in MS Office programs: Linked to coolshader?

When opening any MS Office program, like Word, Power Point, etc. I am unable to type or do much of anything. I am still able to type in Notepad, Word, IE Explorer, etc.

I have been fighting the coolshader problem on my computer all week. I followed the recommended fixes and used CW Shredder, Spybot, anti-virus, and it seems like the worm is gone, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm thinking the disabled MS Office programs are related to the worm.

Thanks for any help on this problem!

Here is my Hijack This file as well. I've skimmed through it and it looks pretty clean, but maybe I'm missing something.

Did you intentionally install viewpoint?

And look at the O16 entries at the bottom, are all of those sites things you recognize as having allowed?

If you really want to cure your problem, you have some work in front of you, and following the cure, some websites your machine has been to will no longer be accessible. If that's acceptable to you, here's what I'd recommend:

First, create a series of 3 folders on your C: drive by right-clicking on "My Computer", selecting "Open", then from the toolbar select "File", then select "New", then select "Folder", and change the name of the new folder from "New Folder" to "HiJackThis". Using the same steps, create another folder, making sure it is created on your C: drive, named "Stinger", and a third folder named "CWShredder". Move HiJackThis into the new folder named for it. Close all folders.

Go to Start >Search >"All files and folders", and then click "More advanced options". Click to select the "Search system folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" check boxes. Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" box.

Now, go directly to Direct Download of Stinger from Network Associates, download it to the folder you created for it on your C: drive, then go directly to Direct Download of CoolWebShredder, and likewise download it to the folder you created for it on your C: drive.

Now, downloading to a folder created on your desktop, get, install, update, and configure AdAware Basic Before opening and installing AdAware, see: How to update AdAware and AdAware Full Scan Instructions.. Do not run it yet.

Now, get, install, update, and configure Spybot S&D. While you're there, be sure to read The Tutorial and the FAQ. When the installation routine asks you which icons to install, select "Advanced" for every instance. When the installation is complete, the program will open. Immediately update it. Next, when it has updated, select "Immunize", then "Install" in the panel beneath, titled "Permanently Running bad download blocker for Internet Explorer". Do not check any of the boxes in the lower panel (Recommended miscellaneous protection") at this time. From the option list at the bottom lefthand side, select "Tools". From the list of tools, select "Hosts File", and then at the top of the large box on the righthand side, select "Add Spybot S&D hosts list". It will take a few minutes to install itself. When that has finished, select "Resident" from the tool list over on the left, and on the righthand side, select "Install". Do not run Spybot's ""Check for Problems" yet.

Disconnect from the internet. Do not run any fixes yet, and do not reconnect to the internet untill you have completed this entire "Fix" process.

Now,
Disable System Restore (Note: you will lose your previous restore points).

With no other apps running or browsers or windows open, run HiJackThis from its folder. When it has finished, have it fix the items highlighted in red below.

Reboot into Safe Mode[/i][/b], navigate to the Stinger folder on your C: drive, open the folder, and click the icon to run Stinger. When it has completed, reboot into safemode once again, navigate to the CWShredder folder, open it, click the icon to launch CWShredder, select "Fix", and run it. When it has completed, reboot into safemode again, and run Adaware, letting it fix anything it finds. When that has completed, reboot into safemode, and run Spybot, again letting it fix whatever it finds. When that has been done, reboot into safemode once again, and go to Start >Search >All files and folders, and search for and delete if present (some or all may have been handled by the fixes) these folders:

C:\WINDOWS\secure.html
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Kernel.dll
C:\WINDOWS\BELT.exe
C:\WINDOWS\swchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\reg33.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dlm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\APPSYS.EXE

Then search for and delete if present any files -Other Than AdAware or Spybot Folders - containing:

adv74
Brxpdf5
coupons.com
gigex
nosuch
usclyngoa

Now, go to Start >Control Panel >Internet Options, and on the General tab, delete all cookies, files, and history, then click "Apply", but do not click "OK" yet. Under both the Security tab and the Privacy tab, select "Default Level" and click "Apply", then click "OK". If the "Reboot to apply changes" prompt appears, do not click to reboot, just close or cancel it. Navigate to your C:\Windows folder, fint the Temp subfolder, open it, and from the toolbar select "Edit" then "Select All", then right-click anywhere within the highlighted area and select "Delete". Confirm you wish to delete all. If mass-delete fails, try deleting the files one at a time, then try renaming any remaining files (just add an asterisk * to the beginning of the file name) and then try deleting them. If any resist renaming, bring up Task Manager by simultaneously pressing Control, Alt, and Delete, then select "Processes. Try to find a process containing the name of the resistant file, highlight it, and select "End Process", confirming that is what you wish to do when prompted, then try once again to delete the file. Repeat as necessary for each stubborn file. When you've done all you can there, close Task Manager. Empty your Recycle Bin, then reboot normally. Before doing anything else, and with no other apps running or windows open, run HijackThis again and save the log, then close HiJackThis.

That brings the "Fix" process to a close. When that has been done, reconnect to the internet and go immediately to Windows Update and get any needed Critical Updates and any other security or privacy updates which may be recommended. While you're there, take a look at Microsoft: How to protect my computer. Make sure also you have a current and properly configured antivirus, and use at least XP's built-in Firewall.

Finally, return here and post your latest HiJackThis log to this thread.
