@ossobuco,
My Nan used to take the dumplings out when the stew was done, and place them under the grill for a while so they acquired a crunchy top.

She also used to put dried mixed herbs in the dumpling mix. Scrummy!

That sounds really good.

I like crunchy tops on things like lasagna and baked macaroni and cheese.
The would definately make the dumplings more appealing.
