I've been deleting everything from Microsoft, and my computer has been working just fine, thank you! Update patches are the worst; they include new browsers and options we really don't need, but takes up half of your screen. Talk about spam, they have outdone themselves. Wink

BTW, I delete all messages in my email box when I don't recognize the sender. When I get repeat emails from advertisers, I just highlight them and click the "Spam" button. I rarely see any spam in my email.

ci,

Please don't give advice when you don't know what you are talking about, people migth follow it and screw up their computers. I know you are trying to be helpful but your first post is very very unhelpful (what you are doing and recommending is pretty much opening up your computer to any threat. Those are mostly ***security patches*** you are deleting).

Your second post has nothing whatsoever to do with the thread but at least it's better than the first. What you are recommending is like recommending that someone solve their burgulary problems by leaving their house unlocked and all the windows open.

With computers it might not be immediately obvious as bad advice and people may follow it so if you do not know what you are talking about, for the sake of others who might not know how to tell that you don't, please do not make recommendations.

Get rid of these.

This might be related to MS Money but you can always remove it and restore the backup if you have problems.

Not so sure about this, I'd remove it and restore backups if needed.

Innocuous but possibly unecessary.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HKSERV.EXE] C:\Program Files\Sony\HotKey Utility\HKserv.exe

Innocuous but possibly unecessary.

I don't recognize this as a baddie but it looks suspicious and at best unecessary.

You have a BUNCH of other innocuous but unecessary start up items from Quicken, MS, Quick Time etc but they are not harmful (just resource hogs).

I would get rid of these. But they may be extra context menu buttons from innocuous programs.

ci, what you posted is dangerous. I am not on a "goddam high horse" I am trying to protect people from doing something stupid and ruining their computers. What you are doing is opening up your computer for all kinds of attacks. The updates from Microsoft are very frequently critical security patches.

That's fine if you want to delete them and suffer an exploit from hackers and viruses in the future, but I will caution others against that folly.

And whenever I see people advocating or posting such dangerous things I will speak up, because there are people who do not know how to recognize it and who would harm their computers.

Lastly, you are being quite rude C.I.
