There is a certain element here on a2k who enjoys their red shoes.

We found this out after a small contingent of Australian a2kers went shopping together!

http://a1079.g.akamai.net/7/1079/9462/37799.5098958333/www.shoes.com/productimages/shoes_is35549.jpg

The above pair was posted on another thread as just one of four (4) RED pairs recently purchased by a well-known, well-loved and prolific-posting a2ker. Obviously someone with taste. Another prolific and popular a2ker admits she takes photographs of red shoes. Now that IS impressive.

Please... tell us your stories of red shoes.

I'll start with a description of my oldest and most-loved and so beat-up they can hardly-be-worn red shoes. They are Bastad Shoes that used to be known as some of the best (mass-produced) clogs you could buy. Sadly under the duress of years of work in the garden, my red bastads have lost their gloss and the leather edges so lovingly nailed into the sole are coming away from that genuine birch bottom. I really can't safely wear them anymore, but they maintain pride of place in the pile that is my collection of garden footwear.

These look a little as my clogs must have about 30 years ago... except mine have much larger cut-outs at the vamp which give them a light-hearted and summery style. Cool

But I do have a beautful pair of mojris - black in color and delicate embroidary with red and golden thread.

I have several pairs of red shoes but my favourites are a pair of red CFM cowboy boots. They only get pulled out on special occasions.

Ceili -- CFM? I think there may be nothing better in the world than a pair of red cowboy boots Can you find a picture? I was hoping for lots of pictures.

Kirsten -- Gorgeous! Those Wizard of Oz folks knew what was what!

Gautam -- Mojris? Pictures... pictures please.

Here's a pic of trainers I know you could wear in a manly way... they wouldn't give you quite the thrill of the full red monty, but would be v. acceptable in your executive world. (Do you play tennis?)

This is, imo, the ultimate red "tennis shoe" -- PF Flyer Center Lo Flag Red
http://www.ishop.co.uk/ishop/images/758/pf_mc1002rd.jpg

Quote:
The PF Flyers Story
In 1933, canvas footwear pioneer BF Goodrich patented the Posture Foundation insole, an innovation in comfort and performance, and began adding the new technology to its action shoes. Goodrich shoes with Posture Foundation became known simply as 'P-F' in 1937.
Fashion trends in the Forties and Fifties saw PF Flyers escaping gyms and ball fields to become fashionable active footwear for everyone. 'Everything you do is more fun with PF' read one 1947 magazine ad. PF styles ranged from high- and low-top sport shoes to oxfords and moccasins 'for work, relaxation and play.'
By the 1960s, PF was one of the most popular shoes in America. But even the shoe that helped millions 'Run Faster and Jump Higher' struggled with industry changes in the early Seventies. Today, PF Flyers action shoes have returned, with the original synergy of good looks and active comfort stronger than ever.
The PF Wedge
PF has stood for Posture Foundation, the kinetic core of every PF Flyers action shoe. Back then, the idea that everyone could benefit from body-aligning arch support was ahead of its time. Today, Posture Foundation provides long-playing support and comfort through modern ergonomic technologies like the PF Wedge, benefiting foot function and posture with every stride

Red Sneakers -- The Movie Didn't get great ratings, but as I recall from a partial viewing, sweet & a little funny.

ohhhhhhhh
the glory of the red shoe
the burgundy shoe
the manly oxbood oxford
<thud>

My prize pair of red shoes was purchased from a second-hand shop in 1978. They were made in the early 1960's, and the fella at the repair shop refers to them as being 'baby dolls' in style. They are open-toed, and closed-heel. The heel is about 3 inches - and still made of wood under the leather wrapping. The repair shop fella keeps asking to buy them for his collection, but they are a perfectly balanced and built pair of shoes, and I'm not giving them up as long as I can dance.

And Elvis Costello said:

Oh I used to be disgusted
and now I try to be amused.
But since their wings have got rusted,
you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain,
that's when I knew that I could not refuse.
And I won't get any older, now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

I was watching while you're dancing away.
Our love got fractured in the echo and sway.
How come everybody wants to be your friend?
You know that it still hurts me just to say it.

Oh, I know that she's disgusted (oh why's that)
Cause she's feeling so abused. (oh that's too bad)
She gets tired of the lust, (oh I'm so sad)
but it's so hard to refuse.
How can you say that I'm too old,
when the angels have stolen my red shoes.

Oh, I said "I'm so happy, I could die."
She said "Drop dead," then left with another guy.
That's what you get if you go chasing after vengeance.
Ever since you got me punctured this has been my sentence.
Oh I used to be disgusted
and now I try to be amused.
But since their wings have got rusted,
you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
Red shoes, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

OK, G. I can move it online, I think, or put it in the gallery.

If you had freetime you might want to rethink playing tennis. As a guy, do you feel obliged to be competitive if you play? I don't play Tennis with a capital T either, but I have a racket or two and it is fun to be on the court s& I enjoy volleying back & forth, plus.... just look at the cool RED shoes!!!!!

Alright, Beth, those shoes sound fabulous -- can you digitize 'em, or make a copy on your photocopier at work?
<Is that unethical? We are talking red shoes here. Hanging head for even thinking of it but I think I knew those shoes in saddle tan.>

Good song, Cav. Really good. Have you ever considered buying Mrs.Cav a pair of red shoes?

I'm going to try to find some pix of the red shoes. I think I may have taken pix of them when I first got a digicam. Maybe. If not, I've got the camera now!

Piffka, lucky for me I have Imelda Marcos for a mother. Mrs. cav gets all her hand-me-downs, including many pairs of shoes, some of them even red. Wink

Piffka, I have a pair of go-to-hell red shoes, a left over from my vocalizing days, but this thread reminded me of the ballet The Red Shoes.
My Gawd, what a movie, and what a memory I have. Why in the world would a kid go to see a movie like that? Hmmm. Twas my Hans Christian Anderson days, I guess.

Ooh, I love the red shoes at the top!! Who bought 'em? Missed that thread!

Funny, I've been searching lately for the perfect pair of red sandals, comfortable but interesting. I think these may be it:

Dansko. Expensive! But on sale at a local shop (promotion.)

I finally figured out that I end up spending less money if I get really good shoes and keep 'em for a long time than get cheap shoes that disintegrate in a year.
