searchmeup hijack virus Help Needed

What a great site. I have become infected with the searchmeup hijack virus and I cannot seem to get rid of it. I run Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Norton Anti-virus all with the latest update but they all seem powerless to stop it. Based on other threads I have read here I also tried CWShredder but it failed as well. The last option that I found was to run the hijackthis utility and review the log files. This is where my ability ends. Could someone please review this log file for me and tell me which (if any) entry is the root of all these problems? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Here is the log.

I'm no expert, but I might start by getting rid of any files including 'searchmeup' in the title. Please let the experts give you further advice however.

You can be rest assured they will turn up. They must be becoming quite expert at this now too, the number of Hijack logs I've seen posted lately.

Yeah, Wilso, this malware is endemic now. When are these people going to be prosecuted already?

Soon I hope. I just posted timber's yuckware thread on yet another one. I"m doing it so many times now that I've put the shortcut on my desktop so I don't have to go searching for it.

jman73,

You seem to have a virus/worm on your computer in addition to any hijacks you may have (I'm working through your log and haven't reached the end).

Try the removal instructions here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pwsteal.allight.html

I'll be back with more on your log.

Thanks, I will give that a try.

I ran Ad-Aware and CWShredder again and here are the hijack this logs.

problem with Norton Antivirus fix.
i got this too.
i went and discovered some of the root files (runwin32.exe wininet32.exe mtwir32.dll winlogin.exe) and deleted them manually before i tried to download the virus updates. now the virusscan says 0 infections. so... does this mean that i no longer have to worry about my searchmeup problems? i also deleted some other important system files so now i am unable to connect to the internet...
and whenever i click on a msword document i get a little alert saying: "unable to connect to the internet..."
and in IE, if i try to go to any website, this happens.
www.google.com -> www.%:google.com
****.

i suppose my only option is to re-install my OS and all my programs.

Guys, can you post new threads with new logs? I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the logfiles posted on these boards.
