When an alien landed on earth in 'The Day the Earth Stood Still", the primitives were so ****-scared that they shot him-

Likewise, when an 'alien' landed on earth 2000 years ago and said-
"I know where I came from and where I am going, but you have no idea where I come from or where I am going....you are of this world, I am not of this world...I'll tell you things hidden since the creation of the world" (John 8:14/ 8:23, Matt 13:35)

the primitives were so ****-scared that they crucified him.
Even today the name of Jesus still terrifies atheists..Smile

except I can find nowhere where Bill Nye claims to be an atheist. One could say nothing frightens a fundamentalist christian as much as a person who believes God and science can co-exist. How do you frighten and manipulate the masses for financial and political power that way? It's not practical.

I m sure that there are a lot of Christians
who have no problem with that.

@blueveinedthrobber,
I have always believed that science is a way to find out how God created the universe.

BVT asked: what things hidden since the creation of the world did Jesus tell us about?

He told us about stargates and stuff, and how to get through them..Wink
"Thomas said to him, Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus replied- "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it, but small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." (Matt 7:13, John 14:5/6,Matt 7:13)

Don't put your money on John or George!
John said "Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try..", so no stargate for him!
George went with that Harry Krishna **** and when he died his ashes were slung into the "sacred" River Ganges. He's a real nowhere man now..
Incidentally I wrote to George about 30 years ago inviting him to have a 'Christianity versus Hare Krishna' debate with me but he never replied. He had his chance..Wink

I wonder if Jesus had in mind for His believers to be as smug about it as you

Christians can't help being smug, arrogant and supremely confident..Smile
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of selfdiscipline ..that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured" (2 Tim 1:7, Col 4:12)

Well put Bald! I'd only add that the contradiction and paradox entailed by the idea of Creation can quickly be dispelled by assumption that She has always existed in one form or another

The bottom line is that an "alien" (Jesus) showed up on earth, so in science terms that was "First Contact" with an extra-terrestrial.
So by pooh-poohing him, aren't atheists being un-scientific?

I attribute significant evidence to the accounts
of people whose consciousnesses have exited this material world,
gotten rid of human blinders, and acquiring additional information
(some of which has been tangibly verified).

People who have returned from human death in many hospitals
(i.e., no EKG, no EEG, no respiration for a while, maybe about an hour sometimes)
have ofen remarked that: there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to be afraid of.

Not all of them have said that.
