This week, American Rivers released its 2004 report of America's most-endangered rivers, citing the failure of a federal plan to improve river conditions to recover endangered salmon and steelhead and the urgent need for a credible plan from the Bush administration this year.

Here's a list of the Endangered Rivers:

1. Colorado River (Colorado, Utah, Arizona)

2. Big Sunflower River (Mississippi)

3. Snake River (Idaho, Washington)

4. Tennessee River (Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky)

5. Allegheny and Monongahela rivers (Pennsylvania)

6. Spokane River (Washington)

7. Housatonic River (Connecticut)

8. Peace River (Florida)

9. Big Darby Creek (Ohio)

10. Mississippi River

Salmon (Salmo salar) are returning to the Thames and the Mersey, thanks to European legislation and the efforts of companies like United Utilities.

Walter, I've actuall considered starting a thread titled, Getting Old Enough to Know What it Used to be Like--or something more grammatically correct.

I remember being able to drink out of rivers when we went camping. It is far too dangerous to do that now, even in the less contaminated rivers. One of the sad problems of being old enough to remember when some things, at least, were still pristine. Sigh.
