Rather than supply with the answers to the assignment your teacher gave you, how about i give some clues about how to do this yourself:

The University of Virginia has a documentary archive: clickity-click[/b]

This site from the Salemweb has a chronology, which is to say, a calendar of the order of events in the witchcraft hysteria: clickity-click[/b]

The National Geographic Society has an interactive site, which could give a good feel for the times and events, so that you will better know how to find the answers you seek; they call it an interactive site: clickity click[/b]

Here is the site of the Salem Witch Museum, in Salem, Massachusetts: clickity-click[/b]

And finally, here is the Discovery.com site, which is a teacher resource site, so you might just find the answers you seek without any further work--good luck: clickity-click[/b]

Harry, it's unlikely that anyone will believe you. Now if it's just curiosity ask after the 29th (when your homework is due). Mr. Green

What is the sourece of your constitutional aversion to looking it for yourself? I've given you sufficient links to find the answers you want.

Sorry to dump on you harry, but it sounds like laziness to me. I've seen it a bunch of times, people wanting to know, but not taking the time to learn.

I've got one word for you. Google. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

Google will help you learn just about anything you want to know. Sure, it takes some digging. But if it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be worth it now, would it.

I also understand Yahoo is getting pretty good at their search engine. But that may just be the propaganda they pop up on my screen. Haven't really used them yet.

Set, doesn't it seems sometimes that A2K is a clearing house for information needed by schoolkids? I'm going to reduce my voluntary workload here.

It's understandable, and i have no problem helping those willing to join the effort, and help themselves.

Its like my kids coming to me wanting 'help' (read: me do it for them) with their homework. I won't give them the answer, but I'm willing to lead them down the path for it.

Trivia about the Salem Witchcraft trials:

Although Salem was the nearest town in the 1690's, the site where most of the trials took place has since been incorporated as DANVERS, Mass.

No one who confessed to witchcraft was executed. Only those who denied it were in danger of death if found guilty.

Contrary to popular opinion, None of the people convicted of witchcraft in the Salem Trials were burned at the stake. All were hanged, except one person who was 'pressed' (had stones piled on top of him)

Equs is right on point. However I am pretty sure that was not the case in Europe.

In addition I love Arthur Miller's use of the Salem Witch trials to illustrate McCarthyism and how easily things can get out of control.

Sort of like now if you criticized the present administration you are labeled unpatriotic or worse.

Just outside the old cemetary in Salem is a modest memorial to those who were hanged for witchcraft. On the day we visited, someone had placed a rose on each memorial stone. I was told this is done every day.

Giles Corey neither confess, nor was he tried and convicted for witchcraft. He was pressed for refusing to cooperate with the Grand Jury proceedings. In doing so he assured that his property would not be seized by the colony for being a convicted felon and that it would pass to his heirs.
