Hi,

Can someone please help me out with an omegasearch infestation? It originally added favourites, took over my default settings and added a toolbar. I've followed the steps in each of the topics here (mainly from timberlandko) which seem to have removed some of the issues, but I cannot stop it adding the toolbar every time I open a new webpage.

So far I have tried hijackthis in normal and safe modes, as well as running spybot, smartkiller, cwshredder, bazooka, stinger, adaware and norton antivirus all in safe mode, with the System Restore disabled. Spybot did find a reference to 'True Blue' but that was it. I keep deleting the first line in the hijackthis logs, but it keeps re-appearing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't have any experience with this stuff except for just this night. I just spent my entire night trying to get rid of omega search. Your hijack log looks like it has a lot less stuff omega related than mine did.

So while I don't know if I entirely solved my problem I can tell you what i did and what I found out.

After running Hijackthis I found about 5 entries related to omega. One of them is exactly like your first RO one. I deleted all those and it helped but I was still having some trouble. Still had the toolbar loading and it kept reseting my homepage after restart. So I looked deeper and found a couple of suspicious looking entries that I dont see on yours which leads me to believe whatever installed it on mine is different than whatever installed it for you.

Anyway, I found a suspicious line with a path leading to \joy frag acid\fivechic.exe

Completely suspicious so I deleted that entry and then went looking for that .exe file. That same joy frag acid folder had 2 other .exe files as well, thunk.exe and TWO BALL.exe

None of those sound like anything I ever downloaded or wanted so I tossed them out.

So after deleting the omegasearch entries and the fivechic.exe entry in Hijack and then deleting those .exe files, I seem to be free of omega. I dont know for sure though if I am totally clean or not, but my homepage stays and the toolbars are gone. It was loading its own site and then passing on to my selected homepage, but that also stopped.

Hopefully maybe this helps a little, but it might not since I can see your log looks different than mine did.

I would also recommend reading this thread if you haven't:
http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22554

The only other thing I could suggest is this looks awfully suspicious to me in you log:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {ACB1E670-3217-45C4-A021-6B829A8A27CB} - (no file)

But I am by no means an expert, just someone who had this same problem and I think I got mine fixed, good luck Smile

Thanks for the tips.

Checked the suspicious entry out you mentioned and seems this was the problem after all. Deleted it and I am omegasearch free again!!!
