headphone on my laptop

I don't know either. Is it possible to borrow a different pair of headphones to see if the problem is the headphones or the laptop?

I have to wonder if this is some computer setting, as it sounds remarkably like what I encounter when wearing hearing aids EXCEPT when using headphones. I have discovered that a fifty dollar headset is much more useful than a twenty six hundred hearing aid.

Try Roger's suggestion: another pair of headphones.
Try right clicking on the speaker icon at the bottom tool bar to open volume control and make sure the balance is adjusted to the middle.

I tried right clicking and didn't see one labeled balance. I'm using Vista, so is there any help for me?
