1 down looks like syringe. I don't know about the others. 64 down looks like an impossible arrangment of letters. Are you sure the F is right?

Lovatts Giant Cryptic 28d
Hope this helps

"28 down Scrap of timber for the New Zealand opener's last delivery ?A?C?T?E? not sure about the A"

The answer if OFFCUTTER (The A you have has to go!)

OFFCUT = scrap of timber
TE = New Zealand word for "the"
R = the last letter of the word "opener"

Whole answer OFFCUTTER is a kind of cricket delivery

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier - I'd have been able to help you with all those. Smile

I didn't know that 'te' was the NZ word for 'the', but 28d couldn't have been anything else.

canada - if you had an 'A' as the second letter of 28d I suppose you had 'heaviest' for 32a? I hope you changed that to HEFTIEST.
"His first newt, that is, on the road is the most sizeable"

H - the first letter of 'his'
EFT - another name for a newt
IE - means 'that is'
ST - abbreviation for street = road
HEFTIEST - most sizeable

Good luck with your entries! For myself, I'd rather win one of the 4 Mikasa crystal clocks that are prizes 5-8. I don't need a Qantas expandable travel case as I unfortunately won't be travelling anywhere in the foreseeable future and the board games are rather 'ho hum'. (Sphinx and 3D Vampire) For those doing the UK 'Puzzle Collection' #31 - these are the prizes for the Aust 'Holiday Collection' #48. It's the same puzzle book but with different names and issue numbers - and different prizes! Smile

How about assuming :-
ceasing without Church of England = asing
put SUM inside - as sum ing
adopting = assuming (as in assuming an identity)
