uppose i have 4 solids like this:
and the solid have shear stress and tensile stress 12N/mm2 and 15N/mm2 respectively,
suppose i know the area of each surface,
how can i judge whether this solid is able to withstand 20N load?
what kind of formula should i use?

@koii123,
1st is a shear--the shear area is product of the height and the width of the solid.
2nd is tensile (compression)--the tensile area is the area of the base---note the tensile limit is generated by integrating the turnover moment (see retaining wall problems)
3rd is shear--the shear area is the base of the wall.
4th is tensile--use the same area as in the 3rd situation.
