These aren't famous quotes.. just things said by mom... I was wondering if anyone else's mom had said these things to them... and what other ones are out there that you heard all through your growing years? here's a few of mine...
(After getting sick of hearing one of us four kids saying.."hey mom..." "mom...")
"I'm gonna change my name to **** and slap you every time you say it.
(Response to the question "What are you eating?")
**** on a shingle, ya want some.... (Later in life I learned that in some parts of the country, this is a real entree)
(In response to "I can't")
"Can't never did do nothing" (Horrible usage of the english language, I am aware)
(response when we used the word want)
"Want in one hand and spit in the other and see which one fills up the fastest."
Those are pretty damn good. I can't think of any specific things my mother said right now, but I remember that we always knew which friends of ours she really liked. If she called somebody an asshole or a dumb ****, we knew they were in.
Goodness
Was she a D/I ?
How about?: ...."I'll give you something to cry about
Sorry Kick...
A Drill Instructor.
I've always liked: "I brought you into this world and I can take you out too!"
How about this one, if we wanted to do something and said that all our friends were doing it. "If all your friends were going to jump off a bridge, would you do that too?" And then at the end she'd add, "Dumb ****."
By the way, she wasn't a D/I. We're just Italian.
yes, YES... those are great ones that I've heard as well.
You know, my Mom was no saint...but i never never heard an indelicate word come out of her lips...lol
haha! I love these ones!
My mom said the "sh%t on a shingle, something to cry about, and the jumping off the bridge" ones. She also said "Thank God you weren't twins" and
"God makes little kids cute so you don't kill them"
and the old standby; "Yes, I did have you so I could have slaves" that we always accused her of!
Ones she said that I didn't like: "It's a man's world", and Life's not fair".
Sort of a bittersweet post suzy

I love that. I'm stealing that line.
Yeah, she had ten of us, so there was a little stress there!
Panzade, are you referring to those last two? Whenever we girls (the minority) complained about something we weren't allowed to do, that's the line we got. I have found that basically, she was right on both counts, much to my dismay.
Another thing she said (when we were adults), upon explaining her reasons why she made us go to church, even though she didn't, was this: "God left me a long time ago, but I wanted you to know him". That one kills me. She had it rough and then she died young, but she left a lot of sage wisdom behind, much of which I can't recall right now.
Yeah, the last two. It's too bad she was right.
Well, it looks like I brought this topic down. Sorry.
I am way too tired lately to recall all the really great things my mother said, but like most moms, she was full of gems! Next time I speak with my sisters, I'll see what they remember.
Nooo, I didn't mean anything by that and I loved your post
