Things have changed since I was a lad
We always saluted Teachers and priests
Opened doors and gave respect
I'd always lived a good life.

That comes from my Mother
Better to do a good turn, than a bad one
Once I did fall by the wayside
One day I was in Chapel.

To say prayers for my Grandfather
I took two candles from the box
Before I left, I asked God for forgiveness
I would pay for them, when I got my pocket money.

There was to be a power cut that night
And I didn't want my Mother to sit in the dark
When I got home,I told my Mum
I had bought them for her.

Father knew were they came from
And made me take them back
There was no power cut that night
God must have forgave me.
