Will Armageddon really happen?

If so, when and what will really happen?
Here is an abridged definition:
Quote:
The Greek Har Ma·ge·don′, taken from Hebrew and rendered “Armageddon” by many translators, means “Mountain of Megiddo,” or “Mountain of Assembly of Troops.” The Bible associates the name, not with a nuclear holocaust, but with the coming universal “war of the great day of God the Almighty.” (Rev. 16:14, 16) This name is applied specifically to “the place [Greek, to′pon; that is, condition or situation]” to which earth’s political rulers are being gathered in opposition to Jehovah and his Kingdom by Jesus Christ.
(Reasoning on the Scriptures, Watchtower Society p 44)

If it results in the end of human misery, wouldn't that be a good thing?

@neologist,
There have been many (5) Armageddons, some say we're in the middle of one now.

The dinosaurs had their Armageddon, sure put them out of their misery.

@neologist,
Someday an asteroid will strike the planet or a pandemic will decimate the population or any of a dozen other nasty natural events will occur. And across the world many millions will blame it on God or the Devil or proclaim it to be some form or religious retribution which matches their personal doctrine and demons. Then the sun will rise the next day, the clouds will eventually clear, the survivors will dust themselves off (whether they be humans or just insects) and nature will continue on its way as though nothing had ever happened.

For some people armageddon happens all the time and for others it hangs over their heads and harries their days. But for a lucky few who recognize that it is just an illusion of human fear and insecurity, it doesn't exist at all, and natural disasters are just that.

@neologist,
Indeed and to which list do you refer Neo?
My hit list, to do list, bucket list, shopping list or if it's the timeline of the mass extinctions you're after, I'm sure you can Google it.
Last time I checked it was 5

See when you say Armageddon, I see ice age, meteorite strike & other natural nasties.
What do you see?.

And war, mustn't forget war.

Do you mean lame in the sense that is sounds like a beer fest? Or, lame in that you think it can't happen?

Beer fest would be nice, actually.

A combined international political force will act against organized religion (Revelation chapters 17 and 18). Kind of makes sense since the priesthood has been a major force in the coscription of cannon fodder. . .
Other stuff, of course.

Just soliciting input. I respect your view. Looking for others with similar or varied ideas. Its a common subject for speculation and I don't want to narrow the scope.

Everybody already knows my take, anyway

Lame?

There couldn't be a more ridiculous description of the Book of Revelation.

Fantasy, drug induced hysteria, madness, or just pure nonsense, but lame?

But perhaps you were trying to be ironic.

Clearly they are mad. Armageddon isn't personal and it can't happen " all the time."

@Finn dAbuzz,
Are you saying perhaps not ever or perhaps not all the time?
I'm thinking those personal Armageddons to be more accurately labled Waterloos. . .
