As noted in previous post I now get this "log file" on my desktop. ( started after I fixed a hi-jacking) A file search shows its home is : local settings/application data/history/today/my computer/error log files.log. The entries will be erased when the "history" is delated under "internet options". I can not delete the icon from the desktop, but can "erase" it only to have it reappear when it senses an action. I have added one of its recent entries.
I would like it to behave as it is susposed to.
I guess I am as curious as anything else as I like to resolve 'anomolies", do you?

UPDATE; it appears that this "log" is part of the hijack I thought I removed. "allthebest.com", a real nasty. I am in the process of going back in and looking for the hidden hijack files.
UPDATE seems like this "log' is part of the hijack "allthebest.com"
Broderbund make a program I use called Home Architect Deluxe. Sometimes the software freezes and creates an error log. I don't know if this helps, but thought I'd mention it.

Interesting. Keep us updated as you wade through this, would ya?

Sorry folks, back to the drawing board. Although the hijack recreated itself 'allthebest.com", I suspect the file sstyle.css regenerated system32.exe and systeminit.exe (don't know how, but deleated them and no longer showing reg entries).
So, this log file seems to be connected with IE and possibly activeX. I have no idea if it is a valid file and why it navigates to the desktop. Any clues? Again the file name is "error log files .log This is the properties data and it says its a IE shortcut which opens in notebook.

We found it, it was part of a program called "Systems Suite 5". This file showed up after the hijack was cleaned as a report and decided to stay around. It is now in the proper location.
thanks every one
Was that On-Track's "System Suite 5"? I'm curious because I had that on one of my machines, and upgraded it recently to "Fix-it Utilities 5", when On-Track rolled that sort of software over to V-Com. I've had no trouble with it, apart from occassionally not being careful enough about what I let it delete or otherwise "fix" once in a while
Fortunately, its' "Undo" feature works pretty well
answer is "sort of"
The program is now a "V-Com", but it is a hybrid of other software including "on-track". There is a feature called "error tracking" which I do not recall enabling, but after I cleaned out a hijack, it showed up on my desktop. I could not find the source, thinking that it was either part of the hijack or xp error, hence the call for help.
After I finally realized it was part of the start-up, I went into diagonistic safemode and pinned it down.
What surprises me is after I found out where it came from and unchecked "enable error reporting", the file name changed to "errcap.log from error log files.log. That was why no search found it. Who knows, either a result of the hijack or of poor software design.
