Sex education, then and now, in the US and world

This is not my field of study, but I do read - I think in the U.S. we are galloping backwards.
Or maybe the backward type news is just more visible via internet/press.

I say this as a once startlingly ignorant child and teen. I had not a clue what **** meant, asked a friend when I was eighteen, and she wouldn't tell me. So - it's hard to be dumber than I was.
Naturally, I made up for that in time.

I'm starting to fear the US south - but I know the south isn't a monolith.
