@Setanta,
I saw an interview with Paul McCartney where he said that he wanted to go back to gigging in small venues but John wasn't interested. Basically different directions.

@Setanta,
Absolutely.

There's maybe only two people left who actually understand what they went through, namely Paul and Ringo.
Probably even Elvis (I may be treading on holy ground here) didn't get swamped every minute of the day like they did in those two or three years at the start.
Every single word analyzed, every venture outside running the risk of being pulled apart by hormonal girls, no private life, every song having to be better than the last. It's a wonder they lasted so long, really.

Yes, I picked up on George being the one to first mention the split. It had probably been decided between them by then, but he was the first to confirm it.

I misread that as giggling.

I was thinking " why would Paul want to go and giggle in small venues?"

Only for a split second though.

One reason i am skeptical about such stories is timing. I suppose because of my background in history, getting the timing right is important in my view. Harrison made his "no longer a Beatle" remark in 1966. McCartney and Eastman didn't hook up until 1967, and they didn't marry until 1969. Most of the Let It Be album was recorded in January, 1969. Brian Epstein died in August 1967, and Lennon and Ono only met in 1966, and began corresponding in 1967. Lennon sponsored a show by Ono in 1967, after the death of Epstein. I think that there is a narrative there heavily influenced by hindsight. I continue to believe that they were drifting apart from late 1966 onward, and that no one person can be "blamed."

That's what happens to rock groups. Groups form, they break-up, the re-form or they start new groups. The entire Beatles "break-up" saga seems like more media manipulation to me. "Hey, pay attention to me, i was there, i'm important, i know the inside story!"

@Setanta,
Mine even had four strings, and four pegs.

My much older brother in law was in a group at the time, and even strung it round the other way as I was/am a leftie. JUST LIKE PAUL (screeeeam).

From 2012.....

Found: The Beatles tape one man wishes he'd never heard. Original audition reel REJECTED by Decca records 50 years ago

The Beatles’ audition tape that was infamously rejected by a record company boss - because he thought guitar groups were ‘on the way out’ - has been discovered after 50 years.
The fledgling group were also told ‘they had no future in showbusiness’ following the 1962 audition, during which they recorded a ten-track demo tape.
The decision by a Decca Records’ executive still stands as one of the worst judgement calls made in music history.

I note that the group name on the demo tape reel is "Silver Beatles." That's the name they used when they toured Scotland early in 1961.

@Setanta,
According to Wiki, Set, the order of play went like this......

Johnny and the Moondogs
Beatals (as a tribute to The Crickets)
Silver Beetles (Scotland, touring with Johnny Gentle)
Silver Beatles
Beatles.

Personally, I think £35k was a snip.

And one of those audition tracks was "Hello Little Girl", wriiten by Lennon and Mc Cartney.
They passed it on to a group called The Fourmost who had a hit with it.

Not much like the Beatles, are they.....

Which, if I remember correctly, was a hit with Billy J Kramer over here....

I think we may have already alluded to that, but it doesn't hurt to hear them again.

EDIT: I just checked, and "Bad to Me" hit number 9 on the US charts, the first top ten hit of a Lennon-McCartney song to do so well by a group other than the Beatles. Those boys did a lot more for UK music than just launch the invasion.

I don't think this has been posted here yet, but no harm if it has. I've had this in my head as an earworm all morning.

Let's see how many songs are featured in that poster.
Set has one...
here's another:
"One of a only handful of recordings in which none of The Beatles played on any of the musical instruments"
