Feather grass thriving on poor soil. Probably Silver Feather grass.

Healthy one:

Soil and climate conditions determines how the plant looks like.

You can never be sure but the probability is high in this case.

These ones just started blooming, yours is a bit older.

Basically, you are telling me that the guy on the left is not Asian because he is smaller than the guy on the right.

Fine with me.

I agree. What you have shown in your photos is slightly different than what Timur has shown (although they may be related varieties).

The grass/weed you have posted seems shorter, the seeds appear to be spherical and the puffy material is finer and more cotton-like.

Would it be possible for you to pull one of these plants up (carefully) to expose the roots, and then get a closer picture of the leaves and stems. Also, if you could narrow down the area in Asia where this is growing that would help too.

Thanks,
dalehileman

@KRukia,
Slightly OT KR but I'm surprised at all the response and I'd like to post a photo also. However I understand one can't simply cut and paste, that one's iPhotos first have to be transmitted into The Cloud. So if it's no trouble can you explain how that's done, whether they have to be situated in any particular department of The Cloud, and finally having done so how to insert one into a forum posting such as this

Thanks KR for any help
