I was given this riddle, and I need some help solving it.
I was going to go with hair, but maybe the answer is more clever than that.
Trail of blood leading to the guillotine.
My first reaction was HAIR as well.
could be a word made shorter like SMILES
cut off the ends you are left with *MILE*
Or Discontinues cut off dis********s
you're left with continue, if something continues it must get longer
That's the best answer so far, Kev.
Hmmm, dont think it's right SCoates, riddle says "the MORE you cut the ends the longer it gets" In my offering you can only cut the ends once.
Yes, but it's still better than hair. For some reason that pops into everyone's mind.
Oo! I've got it. Lines. As in, a line to a movie. The more people cut in line, the longer the line gets. I always hated that in the highschool cafeteria. I was to kind to cut, but no one else was... poor me.
Of course, the question would have to be phrased a little differently for that to work.
The Answer
The answer to "What gets longer when you cut it at both ends?" is.....
A DITCH!!!
another answer
I had always understood ditches to have been dug, not cut, so I thought that the answer was a scar.
I thought it was a hole, but line is much better...
if you keep cutting the ends, the means get longer.
how about a tunnel? The more you cut at the ends, the longer it becomes.
