It would change nothing, practically speaking. But it would sure change people's view of the universe and life.

Tis strange indeed, physics is not supposed to have anything to do with philosophy and religion, but it does anyway. I guess humans just aren't able to be perfectly scientific. We need something we can relate to, we need something to imagine electrons and other stuff we can't see as. And whenever we imagine them as tiny building blocks, tiny glowing balls of energy or tiny pieces of intelligence does ultimately affect our views of reality. If you think of subatomic particles as tiny chunks of dead matter, it makes the universe feel like a dead, uncaring place. If you think of them as tiny intelligences, them it feels like the whole universe is alive and has the capacity for caring.
