@raprap,
Good one Rap, thanks

Incidentally is there anything more to it, than cut-and-paste

Reason I ask, on some such Internet forums it's a very involved procedure which once used you'd immediately forget how

@dalehileman,
The picture is an online image http with a jpeg extension--put that http within an html brackets for an image. In Able2know youcan use the BBCode editor to generate the html codes.

@raprap,
Thanks Rap, yes I was afraid it would entail some such complexity, heck with it

@dalehileman,
it's very easy

find an image and it's associated url

http://www.vermontvacation.com/~/media/Images/allSites/image_gallery.ashx

like so

you can then either highlight the url and then click Img in the BBcode Editor, or you can type in the [img] [/img] code yourself

so this

Code:[img]http://www.vermontvacation.com/~/media/Images/allSites/image_gallery.ashx[/img]

gets you this

http://www.vermontvacation.com/~/media/Images/allSites/image_gallery.ashx

I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don't vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain,' but where's the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote -- who did not even leave the house on Election Day -- am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created."

@raprap,
Why is the word 'vote' an anagram for 'veto'? Coincidence? Hmmm??

I think not.

@dalehileman,
It really isn't, dale. You can capture the pic's URL just by right-clicking on the pic. Put it between [img] and [/img] and voila! you've got 'art' in your post.

@Lustig Andrei,
Okay here goes, Andy

[img]/Users/dalehileman/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/2012/May 12, 2012/IMG_0099.JPG[/img]

I went to iPhoto, picked one, and hit "copy", then posted it here

Well that didn't work. I had hoped what I get when I click on "copy" is a URL so apparently not. But iPhoto doesn't give me a URL. So I'm wondering if it's not a complex process after all

That's something about the URL that's always puzzled me. Some windows provide one and some windows don't

Edited to remark,aha! I'll bet if I set up the photo to send it by email I'll get its URL. So I looked into the possibility but found that for a starter you have to be a PC expert even to select a facility for the immediate purpose

But thanks Andy

Why not

@raprap,
I don't think so. Kind of making an assumption on who you voted for, you've tossed your bitching rights. First term, not so much, but with nearly four years experience to guide your vote, you will be getting exactly what you asked for.

@dalehileman,
OK, let's see if I can talk you through this, dale. Clicking 'copy' on the pic itself won't do it. But here's what you can do. When you right-click on the picture, a window will open. One choice will be 'copy'; ignore it and click on "copy image URL" instead. If, however, the window that opens is a longish affair, one of the choices it will give you is 'properties.' Click on that and another window will open. This one will contain the actual URL, identified as such. Highlight it. Then right-click 'copy.' Come back to the response page . Put the cursor in the place where you want it. Right-click again. Click on 'paste' and the URL should appear like magic. Make sure you've put it between [img] and [/img]. On the response pad all you will see is the numbers and letters of the URL itself. But when you click 'reply,' on the page we all read it should appear as he picture you want.

The confusion comes it because of the different ways a picture may have been posted. On some, you just 'click 'copy image URL'. Others (jpg mostly) will not give you that option, and you have to go to 'properties.'

I don't know how I can make it any more complicated than that. Laughing

iPhoto apparently doesn't provide same

Not iPhoto. I get Rotate, Hide, Trash, Copy, and Show Event

Quote:
…….the actual URL……….Highlight it…. 'copy.' Come back……Put…..where you want it. Right-click…..'paste' ...URL should appear…...put it between [img] and [/img]………
Thanks again Andy and yes I know how to do all that kind of stuff, it's just that I can't find its URL in the first place

Again thank you most kindly Andy. I will fool around in iPhoto a bit more; maybe by randomly hitting keys I can turn up the URL

@dalehileman,
pic can't be on your computer (PC or Mac) it has to be hosted somewhere on the internet in order to have a URL (Photobucket is a good site and easy to use, they even supply with the IMG code after you upload your pics)

Aha! I knew it would turn out vastly complicated

Mac awards prizes to his programmers for finding a new way to complicate something otherwise simple like copy-paste, the obvious way. For every additional keystroke required the programmer gets a bigger prize

@dalehileman,
No, if the additional keystrokes make the process easier and more intuitive - no prize.

Oops. My bad. I thought you meant Mac and PC programmers.

Well put Rog but I still maintain things are far more complicated than they needbe. Evidently the process of complicating an otherwise simple move conveys to its writer a sense of accomplishment

Indeed the reason for so little backlash such as mine, is that many if not most Americans gain a sense of achievement from overcoming all the barriers placed in their path

Forgive me Rog, I use "Mac" referring to any incompetent programming and "PC" to any computer
