I've just thought there are some overtly religious songs that I really like (I have to pretend the words are a deeply veiled analogy for something else )
Any other music loving atheists like these or any others?
This one I first heard so long ago, it took me literally decades to figure out what it was - still sends shivers up my spine
Ed, how can one go past Mr Belafonte - Mrs Hinge loves him.
I didn't know this track but it is indeed a worthy addition to this thread.
My memory is a bit rusty, since I bought that album in 1964, but I believe the background vocalist is Lou Rawls.

Just one more...
I always thought this was an amazingly beautiful song that could be sung by just about any newly in love woman:

heh, I remember the first time I heard this song....it was indeed Ms. Collins, above.
Being raised a cat lick, I had never heard the song amazing grace, and thought it was a song Judy wrote.

Modern Christian songs have generally been disappointing, but this one is well-written and well-sung by Christian singer, Don Francisco.

Panis Angelicus (Bread of the Angels), by César Franck (1872) here performed by Andrea Bocelli, the great living tenor of our age. (Some claim Luciano Pavarotti was better, but he's no longer with us.)

The Dies Irae, from Mozart's requiem mass. Dies irae means the day of wrath--this is one of the most brilliant pieces of tragic music ever written.

Hayley Westenra, the great New Zealand soprano, has "abaondoned" classical music (in the sour grapes opinion of some snobs) for popular music, including singing popular Protestant hymns.
Whatever Hayley sings, it's going to be gorgeously beautiful.
