Does anyone from nyc remember the Red Witch Bar?

Yes, Steve, I DO remember the Red Witch. I was served there when I was 16 and 17. It was on W. 3rd or W. 4th? South side of the street, not far from Sixth Ave. I think.

I sure do. I was a hippie back in the day & my future husband & I used to go there with friends all the time. We actually met on MacDougal Street in 1969 & then lived in a "crash pad" on East 11th between Ave B & C. I remember John @ the Red Witch who I believe was the owner.. big heavy kinda gruff guy. I think the drinking age back then was 18 in NY.. so we were just there. Wow! I just googled Red Witch this morning & was actually surprised to see this!

Just saw this!!! Yes...I used to go to the Red Witch before going to shows. John, a lawyer owned the place and I remember a church across the street. We would get served at 15-16 in the back, dark room, with a fast rear exit. We would have roach races up the wall! John would serve us pitchers and coffee cups of flaming suicides. Back then the Bitter End, Gaslight etc. didn't serve booze, so we always had a pitcher before show time. Years ago, I went back and saw it was a T shirt shop. The place is a legend!

Yup. 17 YO in 1968 / 69. would go with a friend and drink, and then head off to bleaker street to take in some of the "coffee house" shows if we didn't pick up ant girls at the RW.

Yes I do, I just googled the Red Witch for the fun of it and got this site. Great to know! I used to go there from The Bronx with friends to hang before going to a show or just walking around the Village. Great memories sorry to hear it doesn't exist anymore.
