Why is it neccessary to assume there is a purpose to our lives?

I4L - years ago we developed a theory about food at work. It went something along these lines:

Men have one-track minds. From birth to 13 it's food. From 13 to the mid 30's it's sex. And from the mid 30's on it's back to food.

sex with food? thats kinky

Sometimes we think about cars... or muscles. But if our tummies start rumbling food does become a priority.

I'd love to know the answer here.
If we're here just to enjoy ourselves, then I think the religous laws are just to make sure we're all happy. And perhaps that got out of control, brining us what we have today...?

No conclusions here. I believe in God for sure and I believe God guides me with love... but I can't claim any religious creed.
