Would anyone be able to help me find a list of metaphors and models (theological, natural, mechanical, based on human nature, etc.) that were used to explain and justify why some people are poor and live in poverty – and a list of philosophers who first proposed these metaphors and models? Thank you.

Poverty has many causes. First, it is due to severe droughts. Irregular weathers
have been so frequent for many years. As a consequence, farming faces hard
times and farmers give up their jobs, abandon their land and move to cities.
Another reason is that wars : civil wars, ethnic wars etc break out here and
there. As a result, millions of people leave their homeland in search of a safer
place. Globalization has made the poor poorer and the rich richer. Hence,
poverty has led millions of people throughout the world to immigrate to richer
and safer places.

How about the idea that people created poverty in the first place. It's the system people created that caused poverty. I'm sure the poor man sees that just as much as the rich man does. Though neither would ever admit it.

@jbb,
To explain this, you'd be better off looking at:
- what wealth is
- economic models
- market demand vs price
- tax usage
- foreign policy
- Multinationals in 3rd world countries
- open markets
- tax havens
- protectionism vs free market
- economic needs of developed vs undeveloped countries
history of development (ie economic history of advanced countries - and how they developed from pre-industrial to advanced economies)
