using microsoft windows xp, when i right click on the start button, go to explore and then to the "favorites" folder, there are items in there that continue to reappear everytime I turn on the computer. I can delete them but when I reboot, they are there again. Can anyone tell me how to delete these permanently???

Sounds like you have some scumware on your computer.

Try running Spybot first and if that doesn't work you'll have to go with Hijackthis to get rid of the registry entries.

Explorer does keep a second copy of the favorites. AFAIK, explorer is th eonly browser that does this.

Need to do a bit of research, and I'll post back what I can.

Well, I'm thinking I might have misremembered the conversation.

There is a program called Spider which will get rid of the stuff that IE doesn't delete when you tell it to delete the stuff. Whether or not it will do the favorites, I'm not sure.

You could try going to C:\Documents and Setting\%user%\Favorites, and deleting them there. This is the actual location on the hard drive where they're stored.

HTH.

you can also run ad-aware, it seems to catch more the spybot lately. To tell you the truth the smart thing would be to use Mozilla Firefox instead of IE. It has many more features and is faster/less suseptible to BHO's and exploits.
