Nice comparison. I saw some posts of Olga Korbut on the uneven bars. Some of her routines are illegal now but I don't know that anyone does it any better then she did in '72.

I enjoyed that. One of the guys I worked with had a huge crush on her, big photo of her on his laboratory wall. That was fun then, to talk about the olympics at work.

I remember being young and watching her. I still remember her first olympics - do you remember? If I do remember correctly, she was actually an alternate and at the last minute replaced another - don't remember why most likely because of an injury.

At the time she was very young compared to the others and she messed up big time I think it was her first time out there and left in tears. And then she came back - I remember everyone loving her come back and seeing her floor exercise. That was great fun to watch.

I don't remember the specifics, but I remember liking her.

Sadly Gabby did not medal in uneven bars today...

She's good but I thought medaling in the uneven bars with the Russians and Romanians there was a tall order.

Ok, that makes me cry. (the good kind of cry)

well we have balance beam and floor today - any chances for the US? I look ahead of time so let me know if you would want me to post - I'll avoid it if others want to watch on TV...

Chances, yes. And certainly better than our chances were on the uneven bars.

But just because the US is a legitimate contender doesn't mean we'll actually win.

I look ahead of time too (I can't stand the tension of not knowing when I watch), but I haven't looked yet. Balance beam should be getting done with any time now, so maybe I'll go look.

BTW, in addition to the two women's events, we have two guys who qualified for the men's high bar, and that is also today.

Might be best to not post spoilers. I wouldn't mind myself, but others actually like the tension of "not knowing" when they watch something.
