Anyone have any thoughts about the Steve Nash trade to the Lakers? A good thing or bad thing? Is Nash too old?

@billwillclark,
Lakers really needed to do something bold and getting Nash was bold. While I predict that he'll make a difference to that team (needing a smart effective point guard), whether or not it will get them into the Finals is whole other kettle of fish.

What the Fakers lacked in competing with Thunder in the playoffs was young athletic legs and a steady defense. Nash will add neither of those to the team. He does not play defense and in 4th quarter if they face next year's Thunder again, it'll probably get even uglier.

They still need a 6-10in to 7ft foward-center that dominates the boards and the other elite forwards or centers. Is it Bynum? Not-so-much, as his head is not screwed on straight. It could be Howard, but it depends on what Lakers have to trade to get him and then the chemistry of how he fits in with the remaining team.

@Ragman,
Is it a good thing? It's not a good thing for the Suns!

That being said, the Suns need to retool, so this will hopefully get them headed into the "rebuilding" mode, so that we can compete a couple of years down the road.

In my opinion, Nash to the Lakers makes LA the team to beat in the West. It's not that he doesn't play defense, he just doesn't play it very well. But, he's also no spring chicken, and his back is a question mark. But at 38 he's still one of the best point guards in the league.

@Ticomaya,
I meant to say that Nash was not effective at playing defense. He is, however, quite willing to attempt it, though.

I feel bad for the Suns but comparing them to the Celts ...well, at least they have started their process of doing a rebuild. Celts are going to go one more year with the peculiar mix of aging vets plus this new blood that is on the team now. I'm not so sure I'd blow it up yet either...but losing Allen was so not good. IMHO, they muffed it with dissing him even during the year with the proposed trades dangling him as bait.

@Ragman,
Bottom line is that rebuilds suck - especially for fans who are used to seeing their teams in the Playoffs and Finals.
