@CatsBirdsFishRULE,
What is cheap?

If all you want is something to print papers then you can buy a out of date used or refurbished one for about $100 or less, if you have the monitor from your old one.

You can even find a laptop for $150.

Check out Microcenter. They do sell online and carry a number of refurbished. Buy.com also sells refurbished cheap computers.
These are not going to be top of the line at $100. If you are willing to spend $3-400 then you can probably find a Dell or other system that is a generation old for that price.

I recently bought an ACER for my wife. Similar to this one but I bought it at Microcenter store.

It was much faster than her old one and does everything she needs. She doesn't play games.

@Keith424,
I think CatsBirdsFish is quite young and using either a parent's computer or one at the library or at school or a friend's. Just a guess.

@CatsBirdsFishRULE,
Check at Walmart for a computer that meets your needs (PC I presume), but a daunting thing is they might have an operating system unfamiliar to you.

Was your prior computer XP?

I once had XP too, but went to buy a new one at Walmart and they were all Vista. I bought a Vista laptop, but Vista was so frustrating to me that I gave it to my wife. Now I have a Windows 7 PC laptop (gift), and W7 is enough like my former XP that it caused me no pain

@CatsBirdsFishRULE,
For $500, if you have the time, you put together a nice gaming rig from buying all the parts and putting it together.
I suggest http://www.newegg.com/ and http://www.tigerdirect.com/ to hut for parts.
With about $200 to $300 you can put together a decent rig that is faster than the average PC's that you find at walmart.

If don't have the time to make your own rig or you want a cheap laptop, check out www.deals2buy.com
For example look at today's deal:
