SpyBot freezing

Ok, well after SpyBot scans 2957/5835 files on my computer it just freezes. It detects nothing to that point - i'm very concious of spyware - although i'd like to finish off the search and try to eliminate these popups I get that have some affiliation with whatever "XADS" is. So i'm wondering:

A) Does anyone know what's causing SB to freeze, and/or how to correct it?
B) Does anyone know how to eliminate these XADS popups?

I did some research, and discovered the popups have something to do with "MicORsoft". I did a search on my computer for Micorsoft, and deleted the one item found immidiately. The popups definately seem lessened, and my stopper now actually eliminates them a few second after they appear, though it doesn't outright block them like it does most. AdAware picks up nothing but tracking cookies which accumulate in my temporary internet folder.

Have you tried the Google toolbar? I have had this computer for about a month or so, and it has blocked (immediately) over 1000 popups. What a pleasure!

Also, check this out!

Noah, mine freezes too... Perhaps even at that same spot... Just wait it out. Eventually, it gets over it. It may require a few repeat tries, but it's worth it. It uncovered no less than 2 dozen "bad guys".

Noah, what do you mean by "freeze"? I too have noticed that after moving along merrily, Spybot, at the same point, pauses a bit, and then continues. If your computer is not very speedy, it is possible that the pause is even longer, which makes you think that it is freezing. Have you ever started it, just walked away, and come back later to see if the program finished?

Always try to have the newest version of SpyBot. Also try to re-start your system if the Bot freezes, that has helped me so far... 'm running MS98!

Noah, it's not scanning 5000+ files, it's searching for that many "problems." That means you haven't updated it. The latest spybot definitions will make it search for well over 10000 things. Open spybot, click 'Search for updates,' then once it lists available updates make sure they're all selected & click download. That might make it better able to remove the malware you mentioned.

Monger's right! My Bot's searching 11K+ dialers, spyware, malware, whatchamacallits, and stuff!

Update!!

Hmm, maybe it's just not updated enough. It generally just stops at 2950 or so. It doesn't say the program isn't respond in the ctrl alt del promp, but the program doesn't respond. I have let it sit for over an hour and it did not go anywhere. Also, my computer isn't phenominally fst, but it should easly handle SpyBoT (256mb ram).

I use the Google toolbar which does great, though it generally does miss all the Xads/Micorsoft popups.

Thanks for the link Phoenix, and thanks for the suggestions everyone else. I'll start off be downloading the latest version and see if that helps.

Edit - Updating SpyBot seems to have fixed all problems, don't even get the popups anymore. Thanks everyone. Spybot found ALOT of stuff Adaware missed.
