When do a Google search, how do I cause the oldest items to appear first?

I am pretty sure that you can't..

I believe that Google is all about picking up traffic that appears alot and placing it on the map so to speak... so once established, it would go up the top.

I believe Found Soul is correct. Google sorts on the basis of popularity rather than by date. In other words, those hits that get the most responses get put at the top.

It is true that you don’t get the old data first, because Google algorithm works on the basis of popularity. If you want old data appear first then you have to use any effective keyword or technique and then try to search.
As for Example: if you want to find any book then first choose books option from Google and then try to search which provides information about all Books.
