Now that I've had a good look around this marvellous site I was surprised to notice that there is no category for SCIENCE topics!
SCIENCE covers a multitude of areas of human thought, experience and exploration, and surely there should be a category for it on A2K?
For example, the subcategories of ASTRONOMY, ARCHEOLOGY, BOTANY, BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, COSMOLOGY, GEOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, OCEANOGRAPHY, PHYSICS, or ZOOLOGY, to name but a few, are classic examples of Physical Sciences, Earth Sciences and Space Sciences, which dominate everyday activities.
I would be grateful is such a category could be introduced here on A2K.
What do you think?
PS...Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum - I'm not sure if there is a New Ideas/Suggestions Category where I can post comments such as this one.
There is a Forum called, Business, Science & Technology. I realize that it is a catch-all, but science threads can be introduced there. Remember, nothing is set in stone. If, in a few months, if Support determines that there is a lot of response in the science areas, there possibly could be a discrete category.
Why don't you post a few threads there, and "test the waters" to see if there is any interest?
These sorts of questions can be placed in "Forum Help". In fact, I will move it there, while keeping it here, also.
I think it's a great idea. But I've got a vested interest.
For what it's worth, the neil on the membership looks and sounds like ccpoodle from abuzz. Maybe when you set up such threads, you could PM a few like minded individuals.
What about ye Phoenix. You're up early this morning!
Thanks, I was aware of the NEWS category called Business, Science and Technology, but I understood that to be a reference to fresh media information relating to those subjects, such as press, magazine, radio or TV bulletins etc...with headlines and press releases etc.
I was interested in a new category for SCIENCE where established information or research could be discussed, such as certain scientific laws, theories etc, as opposed to news items which are normally associated with announcements for new projects or discoveries or academy appointments etc.
By the way, you may recall that this was a request that I asked of Randy Brandenberg back in the days of Abuzz - there IS an established SCIENCE category there where guys like "satt fs" "pcinvannuys" "ccpodle1" and "rosborne979" had regular discussions on various Science subjects.
I, for one, couldn't agree more, and like Bib, had made the same suggestion to Abuzz. I don't feel that it is necessary to have a separate forum topic just to post URLs. whether they be current events or otherwise. Marketing is already subsumed under Business, and technology is a broad area, theoretically applying to many different content areas.
What could easily be done, I think, is to take the two preexisting forums, and just change the headings. One could be Business, and the other, Science and Technology. If someone wanted to just pop in and drop a URL without developing it into a discussion, so be it.
Well, unfortunately there won't be any forum name changes any time soon. So, the best thing to do is post science topics in Business, Science & Technology and they will be fished out if/when a Science forum is created.
Hi Bib!! Good to see you here!!
I loved reading your profile.... thanks for the smile....
I'm looking forward to your science category discussions. I've always been interested in renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar.
The site is really new, Bibliophile, and although I agree about Science and Technlogy being a seperate category, let's get some science topics going so the adminstrators will have a motivation to create a seperate heading. It may take a few months as the primary programmer is not available on a daily basis to change anything. We'll have to be patient and in the meantime, flex those muscles!
Thanks Jespah.
I'll start making SCIENCE topics in the Business, Science and Technology Forum until further notice.
