Lets say youre trying to sell something to someone. Or just an important conversation. You have to ad lib (think on your feet). Maybe you get an Objection.
Do you say to yourself quietly and quickly "in your minds eye" the exact worded response before you say it out loud?
Remember that you need to have a smooth conversation that sounds natural so you cant pause too long.
Or do you just start talking and hope the words come to your brain and out of your mouth as you are speaking?
Remember, the person you are talking to is not your friend and you only have one shot to accurately express your self.

@Bobster0007,
According to the general principle that nothing is entirely anything while everything is partly something else, both come into play in differing fractions depending on the individual

@Bobster0007,
I've found when someone just starts talking hoping the words will just come to their head, they end up sounding like an ass.
They sound nervous, unsure, and end up either contradicting themselves or rambling on and on.
Better to be a person who considers what they say, and impresses others with what comes out of their mouths.

@chai2,
Interesting, I just now read this article on Yahoo on how to appear more authoritative....

8. Become comfortable with silence. If you've ever seen someone rush to fill silence by chattering nervously, you know how it can diminish their authority. So when you're speaking, make your point, and then stop. Similarly, it's fine to pause before responding to a question. Confident people assume that others will wait for them to speak, and that they don't need to rush in to respond before they've formulated their thoughts.

Here's the entire article...
