I was talking to a Chinese scholar (PhD, but he obtained the degree from some traditional Chinese university) , who said:
Surely Chinese people need enlightenments, but what they need is the enlightenment of Kant's, not that of Voltaire's.
Of course, for many people, Voltaire's enlightenment is necessary, because they know next to nothing except eating, drinking, peeing, shitting and sleeping.
In other words, they may care about an auto show, care about how to lose weight, care about the trend of house prices and how to wear clothings. They don't care for the right to subsistence.

Well, what is the difference between Kant's enlightenment and Voltaire's?
I've checked out Wiki about Kant and Voltaire, which seems to tell me that Kant emphasizes Logical reason while Voltaire demands direct rights to be bestowed from their government.
Your opinion will be appreciated.
