Yeah, a symbol of it all. So this morning, admittedly late in the morning, he called me - but I was still asleep, woken up by the phone, and still half-asleep decided to let it go, and call him back once Id gotten up.

So, I myself usually let the ringer go 5 times before hanging up, when I call someone; 7 perhaps if I call a cellphone, which might be in a bag or something.

The phone rang something like twentyfive times - for something like a full two minutes. I never even knew that was possible - I always thought one was automatically disconnected long before that!

I called him back a little later, he said: "Yeah I'd just called you, but you didnt pick up, were you outside for a minute or something?"

Who lets the phone go twenty-five times? If they dont pick up within ten minutes, they've got a reason, right? <shakes head>

Oh man does that ever resonate. All of it.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to be appropriately grateful that things aren't much worse than they are (sozlet is, for now, much healthier), but being up half the night coughing uncontrollably while not wanting to wake anyone up (I went down to the couch) and just NOT being able to stop and doing all kinds of useless mind control things ("OK, imagine that it's a challenge on 'Survivor' and all I have to do to win the million is not cough for 5 minutes... ... ... *coffcoffcoffcoff* dammit!!!") and finally falling asleep and then being awakened in the late morning by sozlet who was immediately off and running and who has no patience for me being slow and wanting to sit and drink tea quietly and who is bouncing off the walls with boredom but still too precarious health-wise to go play with other kids and whose hearing is not good so I have to speak loudly which makes me cough is making me grit my teeth and grimace.

Just a bit.

Ooooooouh. Yep, that sounds like it would definitely be reason to grit + grimace. I'd probly have killed somebody or something by now.

And yes, I can only imagine all the above resonating ... of course, comparatively speaking I'm still lucky ...

Oh and I slipped on this one -> "Who lets the phone go twenty-five times? If they dont pick up within ten minutes, they've got a reason, right?" -> that should be "ten rings" of course ... <giggles> - but that slip of the tongue must be a measure of something ;-)

Glad sozlet is doing better...

Nimh, I understand your angst with the intensity of visits with no Conversation Let Up. I've figured out that some people just don't have observational monitoring to gather clues that they are letting no air in a room. I first ran across that with some of my ex's and my theater friends, mostly actors, but also a director. One starts to feel like wallpaper, but not really, because your avid interest is expected.

An old friend is coming up here to visit this weekend; haven't seen her in nearly ten years. She's a litigating attorney, but even before her career in that direction she could hold court, always with, to me, too much detail, specifically naming what person she knows said what and when. Thing is, she does know interesting people doing interesting things in interesting places, people that have, yes, interesting sentences to say about those interesting circumstances (so I'm not completely, er, uninterested in the interesting)... but one comes out of a few hours of this a little word battered. Easier if there are other folks around to absorb some of the information bath.

On the other hand, when she does turn around and want to know about you or the next person, she has rather abrupt pinpoint questioning, which one is not always in the mood for either.

Why is she my friend, you may say, you don't talk like you like her...
Well, I do like her. It is a matter of tuning some of the intensity down. So, I think I become even less linear than I appear normally, asking tangential but still relevant questions to turn the tide in a new direction; jumping up to make a pot of coffee, small means to blunt the enclosing force of the 'conversation'.

I foresee a bit of a task because of all the elapsed time since we've really conversed - think of the accumulated subject matter! - and the fact that she'll be here a couple of days.

So, I'm inwardly grimacing, but somewhat hopeful that I can be both more straightforward re continuous talk - and also help myself by planning various things to walk or drive around and see, like some of our coastal beauty, which by itself may be de-intensifying.

Im gritting my teeth right now thinking about the 'garage sale people'.

Here in austin, there is a HUGE garage sale going on this week. It is all of the donated items a childrens shelter recieved that they can not use.
It takes up an entire event center floor! Shocked
wowsers..

Anyway, me and wolf pack head down to see whats going on. Me- hoping I can find some new'er' toys to change out Beans current 'pile'
Mr wolf- hoping to find board games and wires.. for.. what ever he wants wires for.. ? hehe

We take our smallest stroller thinking it will NOT be a stroller friendly layout. So less space we take up , the better.

Turns out, it is VERY stroller friendly in lay out... PEOPLE .. are not. Confused
I had people actually.... MOVE.... the stroller while I was HOLDING it .. so they could sneak closer by one inch.
People cutting me off , and holding up their hands as they rush in front of me as if Im going to plow them over. Elbowig me out of the way and literally stepping OVER the wheels of the stroller..
not once from these 'ruder' people did I hear - excuse me- , or -im sorry - , nothing.
You would think they were giving away the last of the food on earth the way some of these people behaved.
>sigh<

Me. I make myself grimace and grit my teeth most often. I need to get a grip and get to be more efficient. That won't even cut it now. I need to work 16 hours a day for the next three months. Starting NOW!

Well then get off the computer and back to work, woman. You need to save those paychecks to lavish me with gifts.

here in texas, proposition 2 got passed.

grimace and grit my teeth? oh you bet'cher ass
i could almost cry

it is a proposition that says, unless marriage like contracts are not signed between a MAN and a WOMAN they can not stand up in court.

you know what types of forms that includes?

wills
insurance claims
adoptions
power of attorney

you name it

all because of some self ritious fukcing christians who think that banning anything that gay people can share will make homosexuality GO AWAY..
and the really bad part?
This is NOT the majority of austin that feels this way. this isnt even the majority of CHRISTIANS..

i hate people right now.
I hate judgemental people
I hate self ritious people.

why are our law makers not worrying about laws and rules to keep us SAFE? Why are they trying to rule the bedroom and not the streets? People get shot all the time in the streets.. but for some reason it is more important to try to STOP someone from sleeping with another person of the same sex, instead of trying to STOP the criminals from shooting innocent families.. ?

It was the great Johnson, of course, who said that only a blockhead ever wrote for anything except money. He also said that the imminent prospect of hanging wonderfully focuses a man's mind.

"Depend upon it, sir, when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully."
