The Bastard is THAT ex in my life. You know, the one who screwed me over and scarred me for life.

@littlek,
Oh.
That bastard.
And now he wants to be friends?

"Of all the internet, in all the different sites, in all the world, he walks into my FB page!" (apologies to Humphrey B) Wink

(My feeble attempt to make you smile, k. Smile )

@littlek,
Yeh, it's interesting, how situations and the emotions have a half life.

I just saw that Joe Nation has already "met" TB on facebook. It seems some of his political and religious views have changed since I new him (more conservative).

@littlek,
Does he have sniper training and a special-forces background like Dys? And, just to keep my zoology straight, is "The Bastard" identical with "The Rat"? (The two aren't mutually exclusive of course. Plenty of rats must be of illegitimate birth.)

I don't think rats have a thing about marriage.

Today, on the train from Manhattan back to New Jersey, I had a double-entry for the "what made you smile today" and "what made you grimace and grit your teath today" threads. Next to me sat an eight-year-old boy who got very fascinated by my iPhone.

"Do you have any games on that?"

"No, i don..... wait! I have a Scrabble App on there. I'm using it to play Scrabble with my facebook friends. "

"Can you show me?"

"Sure. You push that button ... and then it takes a while because the connection is slow ... okay and now it loads the one game where it's my turn. "

"Can I see the board?" (Takes phone and looks at the Scrabble board, mesmerized.)

(One minute later:) I got it! (Plays very short, but valid, word.) "See? It worked!"

"Yeah it worked, but it's not a very good word."

"I don't care!"

I knew exactly what he meant. He wasn't being mean. Rather, he was so fascinated with the principle of playing Scrabble over the internet that petty things like Scrabble scores didn't matter. And in the grand scheme of things, he was right. Still, I was a bit miffed. And yet a gain, what's there to complain about? He'll grow up to be a worty nerd one day. So why am I posting it in this thread? Because I already started it here. And anyway, whachagonnadoaboutit?

@littlek,
That's okay. I'm just looking for someone to blame just in case I lose this one, too.

We've had a lot of animals turn up dead or injured in our yard this summer. I am wondering if we have a BB-gun enthusiast. My landlady is wondering if we have people putting poison bait out for rats. There have been 3 dead squirrels and now there is a disabled baby robin.

We've had two broods of robins in our yard this summer. This last batch was a set of 2. They've hopping and fluttering around for a couple of weeks now. Just this evening I found a barely-mobile juvenile lolling on the ground. It looked as if the left wing or leg was not working. I grabbed gloves and took it out of the yard (there are dogs in this yard). I put it in a neighbor's yard (they're away). I brought out some clean rags even though I know it won't use them for warmth. After a few minutes it was apparent that it might be both the leg and the wing that don't work well.

I watched until mama bird found it. She led her other baby over and has been hovering around for a while now. She even continues to feed it. It's heart breaking because I know how unlikely it is that it will survive the night let alone beyond that.

Agh! The robin got back in the yard with the dogs (under a fence), and I moved it again when the landlady got home.

Oh, dear, littlek, I really do hate things like that happening. You want to help, but...

My little dashound has hurt his back, or something. The vet said no more jumping on and off anything, gave us medication, said there's nothing to do. To x-ray would hurt him more, having to lay on his side. It's been over a week, and he isn't the same. Sad. He's happy to sleep in his crate, stay there when we go out. Poor little Odie. How am I going to clip his toenails, brush his teeth? Hope he gets well.
