Re the bed: get some dowel the same diameter as the hole where the legs go in, cut it to size, then drill a hole in the dowel the same diameter as the leg screw. Insert dowel into hole, then screw the legs in.

This works with anything. I've had to do the same for wooden chair legs.

Good luck.

And bummer about that damn bee!

Thanks for the sympathy & advice, Roberta, mac & Mame.

I didn't have any meat tenderizer in the house (I've never used it) but found some tooth paste with baking soda & applied a bit of that. Soothing. Very Happy
BUT the swelling & redness have remained pretty much the same . It feels a little like an ear infection, though I don't know how it possibly could be. Confused Sad
In fact, my ear feels like some sort of weird foreign body! There should have been some improvement by now, surely?
I think I'll visit my doctor tomorrow if there's no improvement by the morning.
What a drag.

Good idea.

Anti allergy pills will probably help.

But...watch bee stings in future Msolga......such a reaction can be an indication that you are becoming increasingly allergic. I ended up nearly dying.

Deb's right, I'm sure you've had an allergic response to the sting.

I've never had a bee sting (knock on wood), but other insect bites get huge and angry and last for days or weeks on me. So I'm not surprised that your ear still feels like a foreign body, msolga.

Antihistamines will help if it's an allergic response.

I'm sure that in the years here, Dlowan and I have conversed on this before.

Personally, I've never been stung but am vigilant, as my mother went into anaphylactic shock at a hornet sting, and barely made it, and I'm like Macll, sort of reactive to bug bites.

I have a friend who carries the antidote for anaphylaxis with her at all times - in her purse, her car, the house, the office, etc. after an episode with a swarm in her younger days and, I guess, a subsequent reaction.

Definitely check with the doc, msolga...

Thanks for the good advice & sympathy, Deb, mac & osso. Much appreciated. Smile

Just got back from the doctor. You're right, it is an allergic reaction. (Surprising, since I've been stung by bees twice before & this has never happened.)

So it's Antihistamines for a few days.

The good news is that my blood pressure's good & so is my heart rate. (Dr threw those in for good measure.)

Soon I will take my big ear for a good, brisk walk!

Allergies can build over time.

You need exposure, in fact, before they CAN build.

Not that anaphylactic shock is necessarily going to happen to you!

But the warning, for me, was that my reactions to the stings became more pronounced over time.

Glad the heart and BP are fine!!

Me, too!

Enough bad stuff happening lately to last me quite a while!

Now I fully understand your reaction in that video to that hovering bee! Not funny at all!

I dropped my girlfriend off at the airport this morning, she hopped on a plane with a one-way ticket to Hawaii. The past couple months knowing it was coming I was fine, but the last few days, especially today, sucked.

So guess now I'm single. Wait, am I in the wrong thread?

I'm sorry, Slappy... A long-distance relationship isn't in the cards?

Hawaii-Boston? I'm not holding myself back for that. I know I'll be talking to her a lot, and will probably go visit in a couple months. Even though I'm not in any rush to go meet new women, I'm considering myself single.

Probably not, but indefinitely. Something she's always wanted to do. Didn't want to not move, then look back on life at some point regretting it. Don't blame her. When I graduated college, I told myself I'd move somewhere warm for a while, but now it's probably not going to happen for me.

I am embarrassed even to post this, but I am really grimacing.

My back sucks, so I have cleaners in to do the vacuuming, mopping etc.

I pay them well.

I cleaned for years as a student, so maybe my standards are unreasonable?

I dunno...

We have a contract about what they do, and it is stated it is open for me to say "don't do that this fortnight, please do this instead'>

I have been increasingly unhappy with the standards for some time now, but it is hard for me to actually get hold of these people to get the keys etc. off them.

Eg...just a few examples of many.

1. ages ago, we agreed that they would vacuum my sofas (pet hair) instead of cleaning the balcony.

If I do not specifically ask them, neither the balcony nor the sofas are cleaned. I do the sofas myself fairly often, and they are never cleaned to my satisfaction except by me. I have said this, and demonstrated what I mean for them to do...but they never do.

2. My version of cleaning floors is that corners are vacuumed, and things are moved and cleaned behind. I have nothing that is not easy to move. This is never done except when I ask.

3. They never dust thoroughly unless asked. A couple of weeks ago I asked.....and some dusting was done. The dust is still thick in many palces.

Today I was off sick.

Two women I have never seen arrived to do my cleaning. I was NEVER told that this would happen. I explained that I was ill, and said just to clean and leave my bedroom for next time.

I think they stayed about half an hour.

The bathroom floor has not been mopped. There is much of the same dirt on the living room floor that there when I semi vacuumed it last night.

I have not checked to see if the bath etc was cleaned.

The sofas have not been touched (I did them last night, as it happened.....I was interested to see what would happen if I said nothing).

The owner is coming later because I rang and complained.

I think this is my chance to get my keys etc.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

hmm, i've been a housecleaner while a student for four years.... which is why, like you, i have special bond to janitors at work and housecleaners (my landlord has nice brazilian ladies -always the same two). but the company you describe should just be cut off...they obviously don't care what service they provide, so why should you care to give them your money? meh, not worth it. hope you can pry your keys off of the guy.
