God knows somebody thinks that's cool, but......
What were they thinking, and how will that look in 40 years?

Okay, so...a month ago, another faculty member at the school where I teach part-time backed into me in the parking lot. She teaches preschool, and it was 4:30, and she was exhausted, so 'nuff said. Nobody was hurt, which was the good thing. Her insurance was more than happy to pay for the repairs, and even paid for a rental car while mine was in the shop.

However...

When I picked up the car after repairs, the body shop had torn the leather on the driver's seat, left deep gouges in the leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the inside door handle on the replacement door didn't match. Naturally, it was Friday afternoon and all the office help had left, so they told me to come back Monday when they'd take pictures and sort it all out. And they apologized. So, on Monday I went back and they took pictures and a statement, etc. They were expecting me, and said they would call me in a few days after their manager saw the photos.

No call that week. The next Monday, I called the body shop. The phone just rang...nobody answered. The next day I called again. This time there was a generic recording, but no way to reach a live person. So I drove back there after my classes, but the gate was locked. It was 4:15 p.m...I figured they'd closed up early.

Today I went by again, this time at 3:15. The gate was still locked, and now there was an 18-wheeler blocking the entrance inside the gate. So I drove straight to their corporate headquarters. Guess what. Sign on door: "This location is closed. If you have a vehicle in one of our shops, contact your insurance company." I went home and googled the place. Sure enough, they've closed all their locations. They're gone.

Dammit! NOW what do I do?!

I read about your neighbor's fire just a minute ago, Osso. Sounds scary.

Yikes!

I don't suppose you have the pictures. I guess the only thing you can do is call your own insurance company unless the other driver's insurance company chose the repair shop. in which case call them.

Thirding the Yikes!

I think you should call your insurance company, eva. They should cover the repair and pursue reimbursement, depending on your coverage, of course.

Start by calling the insurance company that authorized the work.

Call your own broker/agent as well.

There's a good chance your own insurer will cover things, and subrogate against the other insurer for the cost of the additional work.

Hey, you're right! Very Happy

I chose that body shop because the lady's insurance company (State Farm) encouraged me to pick one on their "certified" list! I'm gonna call them and see what they say. I bet they've been dealing with this all week.

Maybe I oughta call my agent too, for good measure.

I will let you know what happens.

THANKS, BETH!!!
