I decided to treat myself after a 4 hour licensure test to a Trader Joe's hummos/tabouli/falafel/pita plate. They are normally wonderful with especially lemony and parsely-y tabouli. But, alas, it all sucked. The tabouli was gritty and on the verge of going bad and the hummos was slightly sour, or something. So disappointing.

Same with me, littlek. I was looking forward to just a plain old hamburger with all the trimmings, and the one that I picked up and brought home was awful.

Over the past four days, I have received telephone calls and when I say, "hello", there is dead air. It has really alarmed me. Finally, yesterday the same thing happened, and for once I got angry. So I did my best French imitation and replied to that dead air.

Ah, I love the mystique of this. It is so charming. Then I sang a few bars of the French National anthem, said bon jour and then au revoir and hung up. I felt soooo much better.

Letty--

That will teach "them" to mess with your serenity on Bastille Day.

I dug into a 15 by 30 foot hillside today to yank out phlox, virginia creeper, blackberry, nightshade, sedum, etc. I ache. And I will be doing it again tomorrow.

My office has a policy where each week two employees have kitchen duty. It essentially just means that we clean out the refrigerator, make sure the dishwasher has been run and the clean dishes are put away. In the last few weeks, however, people have stopped putting their dishes in the dishwasher and have let them pile up in the sink for the kitchen duty employees to put away. It is absolutely disgusting! I never understood why when there is an empty dishwasher that the dishes were not put in it. And now I have to clean up after my co-workers?? I was definitely gritting my teeth today!

I'd issue an ass-whipping email, reminded them that you are NOT their mama.

Oh yes! It's about that time! This is my week and it's so incredibly gross. Cleaning up after family is one thing, but cleaning up after co-workers is not necessary.

Post this, YR.

YOUR MOTHER DOESN'T WORK HERE. PUT YOUR RINSED DISHES IN THE DISHWASHER.

You could wait until it's not your week to clean if you want to be anonymous.

Another explosion in New York City. Not terrorists. But seeing my fellow New Yorkers running in fear as smoke billows in the background freaked me out BIG TIME. Two of my dearest friends work in the area.

Trying to clear my head and get back to work.

They run in fear of their own shadow. Their mayor requires it. That guy makes me grit and grimace.

I agree.... I'm going to wait until it's not my week. But just wait until next week! All capital letters with lots of exclamation points at the end!

Last Tuesday morning's G & G: Waking up in the dark (a bit after 6 am) then discovering that I'd had an electricity outage. (Just me, the rest of the street was OK) Fiddling with fuse box switches to no avail ... THEN discovering that the kitchen floor was soaked as a result of the super heavy rain during the night. I had to cancel work for the day to deal with the problems (after I'd found the phone & phone book using a torch in the dark. Work was not pleaded! <sigh>) Not the best I've had in a while. AND freezing cold to boot! Sad

B is notorious for leaving his cell on 'silent' even during off-work hours. Drives me batty, specially since he's in CA for the summer. I *know* he does this regularly, still manage to work myself up if I can't reach him after a few tries. I tried him on both the landline and his cell several times last night and this morning. No luck. Got into work - somebody asks me - "hear about the earthquake in CA? Centered close to Oakland - isn't that where your husband is?"

Trying his cell again...no answer. (Worry, fume - I'll bet he fell asleep in front of the telly.) He called back within five minutes. "What's wrong? You called?" "Uh - yeah. I did. Only 10 times. And btw - did you know you slept through a 4.2 point earthquake?"

"Ooh - I thought I felt something like that."

Umm yeah. Little g & g'ing here.

I just looked at the 4.2 in your post, and shrugged (am a long time Californian), but I suppose I shouldn't be so glib, depending on circumstances.

Not to get in the middle of the thing about the cell phone, but does your husband's phone have a 'vibrate only' setting?

Roberta & Noddy, thank you both for your concern.
Yes, my power was restored by 9:30 (am), but what drama getting to that point! I got my electrician out of bed at around 7 am, poor man, & after babbling onto him about the situation, he came to the conclusion that most likely there was a leak in the roof (over my kitchen) & what I needed was to fix that, then most likely the problem would fix itself. (Very kind of him to advise this way as it saved me considerable $$$) So B, my trusty handyman, arrived at 8 & after checking a number of possibilities, ended up fixing the roof. (In the rain.). We discovered that during the heavy downpour the night before, that water had leaked into my ceiling & was running down the light cord Shocked .... which caused the safety switch in my power box to turn off all the electricity in the house. (Thank god for the safety switch! Phew!) We then used my hairdryer to dry the socket before replacing the globe. I felt as though I'd done a full day's work by the time he'd left. Laughing
So peace & light & warmth have now been fully restored. Very Happy
