if you have never had a sprint account, be sure that you have never called a sprint PHONE long distance? Toll call ?

because if that doesnt hit your phone bill, or isnt paid by your phone carrier, then you will have a bill from Sprint.

what is the bill for? have they said?

Thanks for the reminder, shewolf. I may have had Sprint long distance at some point.

They didn't say what the debt was actually for. Just that it was with Sprint. And now it's with them. Rolling Eyes

I'm g&g-ing because I received a letter from a collection agency saying that I owe them $39 and change because of an unpaid debt to Sprint.

I've never had a Sprint account.

I've spent some time researching how to word my written response to them. I'll be spending time and money sending that response certified, return receipt requested - all for a debt which can't possibly be mine. If I ignore it, it will go on my credit report. It might end up there anyway!

Sad

Was this your first and only correspondence regarding this unpaid debt? Sprint did not contact you either by phone or mail? Just a collection agency?
I ask because are you sure this collection agency is even legit or could it possible be a scam? I have heard of that happening.

I've had a number of vague recorded messages on voice mail which instructed me to call an 800 number. My name wasn't mentioned, and no business names were mentioned. I figured those were either a mistake or a scam so I never called to find out which.

This is the first written communication I've received. I looked them up online and they have a history of crossing the line in trying to get people to pay up.

I'm certain that there are no outstanding debts that I was ever informed of. Perhaps Sprint forgot to tell me that I owed them? Or I moved, etc.

It may just be a scam and you owe nothing. Do not call that 800 #. That was smart of you. I pay my local phone company to have my phone line blocked as far as caller ID. It says unknow caller. I found out that other companies then pay the phone company to unblock this feature if you call the other company. I could not believe that one. My phone company said I can pay another fee to keep the company from doing this. Almost like a pyramid. I pay 1st, then the other company pays after me, then I pay after them to keep them from doing this. Where does it stop? I started asking others if they were aware this is done and no one I asked knew the phone company was doing this. I was wondering because when my credit card expires and I get the new one I need to call from my home phone. Well, how would they know since I pay to have it blocked. That is how I found out.

Mac

forget talking with a debt collector.

Call sprint.

and if you have to... lie a little.

Sometimes, when an account is turned over to a collection agency, the original debt will NOT be available easily through the company.

So if you call sprint, and the person you get on the phone shows no past due account, they may be telling the truth. And if they say " it has been handed to so-and-so debt company" you can say " I just got a bill from Sprint. Can you tell me how much it is? And can I pay it with you now?"

Sometimes, they will say that once it is handed over, they can not help you. Ask for a manager. Because they can.

I saved HUNDREDS in debt collector charges doing that when I was fixing my credit. You just have to be a bit persistent. And lie. (Laughing) sorry.. but you have to.

You have to say that your bill SAYS sprint.. and not .. Wescrewyouforyourmoney Debt Collecting agency.

Besides.... they will never see it anyway. And when you clear the original debt with the original company, it clears off your credit 90% faster and cleaner.

several joints dislocated
massive bruising

Wolf lady. I am truly concerned for your bean, honey.

Steve, Amazing, Brit.

Mac, I had the same thing with Cingular. I simply canceled my cell phone connection. They tried to send me a bill for $1.57 and I ignored it.

Small gripe. Went to the bank today because I had a lot of business I needed to take care of. It was closed. President's Day. Here me grinding my teeth? That's called bruxism, incidentally.

How's Bean feeling?

I had a dental appt. today, at 1:30. I was planning what I would do before and after, etc. ("If I drop off the film on the way, then...") At 12:35 or so, idly looked at my calendar to double-check something else. And then I saw it. "Dental appt: 12:30." ACK! What? I thought it was 1:30!!!

Called via relay, got hung up on once, got the runaround another time, finally connected with someone at 12:50. That someone was pissed off. (I had an interpreter scheduled and they'll have to pay the terp regardless.) I said I could be there in 15 minutes. She said the doc wouldn't be available then. She remained pissed off throughout, despite my apologies.

Argh.

I have no idea why I thought it was 1:30 instead. I'll offer to go without a terp for the rescheduled appt., same cost to them that way. Feel really bad about it though. (I just HATE being yelled at, especially when I'm actually wrong!)

I grimace anytime I have to talk to a front desk doctor/dental person, soz. Why is it they only hire the unhappiest, unfriendliest people in the world to those positions.

What made me grimace today is Torque, Angular Momentum, my bad physics teacher and the realization that the next week solid will be spent reading, re-reading and teaching myself why a door that weighs 50N and is 1M wide by 2.6M tall has a torque magnitude of 25N applied to it by its own weight on a horizontal axis perpendicular to the door and passing through it's corner.

They actually YELLED????

A bit terse I can get, especially if they had to pay for an interpreter, but that ought to be it.

And I am with jpin......where do they GET those mini hitlers they use as receptionists?

I sort of melt with gratitude when I get a nice one!!!

Sounds like a hellofagoodtime, jp!

When you need a break, can you stop by the Chicago thread and give us some pointers on where to take Bill to dinner before he cuts out? Oh, and if you need a real break, how 'bout joining us?
