Win2000 Pro, P4 2ghz, 768(?) Ram
I use AutoCadLT98 almost exclusively. - I have AutoCadLT200i on my machine also, - to covert newer dwgs to Aclt98, only. When I open LT2000i, it re-sets all of the AutoCad related files to use 2000i, - away from LT98.
I was told that there is an option in Windows to turn this - 'Re-associating' file types OFF. I have looked through the Windows HELP, but it either isn't there, or I don't understand some of the technical terms describing it.
Do any of you know how to do this?
Thanks in advance, craigr
I think you can find it on one of the tabs in the task bar properties menus. I've done it at work several times, but I've got W98 at home and haven't used 2000 for almost a week, which means with I"m forgetting. Every time I learn something new, it seems to push some old stuff out.
Thanks for the reply -
I looked in the 'task bar properties' and couldn't find anything that remotely looks like having something to do with file associations.
Are you sure it's there? Am I just missing it?
What does file associations have to do with the task bar?

It's one of those menus where you've got a whole list of checkboxes. If I'm understanding this correctly (and that's a big if) it's the one to do with hiding file extensions for known file types.
Could also be under "folder options".
If I go into 'Folder Options' - the only options are 'Use DDE' & 'Confirm open after download'. - Do you mean either one of these?

Nope. This is a long list of checkboxes. It's definitely in W2000. Unfortunately, I won't be at work for another 3 weeks, so I can't check at the moment.
Thanks for trying, maybe someone else will have the answer I am looking for.

There is no windows option to stop hijacks for file associations.
There is a program out there called "Associate This" which is a play on "Hijack This".
Other than that your only option is to just change them back or to keep backing up and restoring parts of your registry.
Yeah, there's no Windows setting to stop programs from setting file associations however they like.
However, many programs that try to maintain file associations have an option to turn that behavior off. Root through every 'settings' page you can find in AutoCadLT2000i and you'll prolly find something to that effect.
