Patent right

My professor had a patent on this idea before I joined under him for a PhD program. Before I joined his group he did not have a working prototype of the idea. Three years into the program, I successfully completed the prototype during my PhD under him.

My question is do I have the right to become a part of the patent or does he need to include me in the patent for realizing the idea in the form of a prototype?
