Experiences with Mexican Dentists

I have some major dental work that I need done, the estimate I was quoted for the whole shebang is about $12,000 (of which insurance covers about $1000). This is a pretty big amount of money for me right now.

I have heard of people going to Mexico for dental work. There apparently are well trained, even American trained, dentists with modern facilities who work at a much lower cost. Obviously there is some risk to this. One of the advantages is that Mexican dentists don't pay exorbitant insurance for malpractice. It occurs to me that this is also a disadvantage.

I was wondering if anyone here has first hand experience with dentistry in Mexico. I have read all of the online stuff I could find which is mostly marketing of some kind. Hearing the real experiences of people who aren't getting paid to say nice things would be nice.

@maxdancona,
I haven't personally gone to a Mexican dentist, but a few years ago, while visiting Mexico, a friend tripped and broke three front teeth. She not only had the root canals done, but they fitted her with the caps and all. I'll say this. I broke a tooth years ago and I've gone to half a dozen dentists since then and my teeth are finally even, the cap was way too big and I had to ask over and over again for it to be fixed...
I wish I could remember the name of the dentist, but we were in Mexico city. A very modern city with great architecture, schools and so on. Perhaps someone can give you a referral, but I don't think you'll be disappointed, I'd trust them before I'd go back to a few of the dentists I've gone to here.

What's your major dental work about, Max?
I had an operation on my gums in 2008. Great Jewish doctor in Mexico City.

@fbaezer,
I am losing my four front bottom teeth due to bone loss. I will need four extractions, a bone graft, 2 implants and a bridge.

Sounds like fun, doesn't it.

@maxdancona,
I'll give 2 phones of dentists in Mexico City. Both do implants.

Dr. Movskowitz (he's the one who did my gum surgery, a specialist in periodontology, but goes farther; also a University teacher):
(52) (55) 14994003 (cell phone)

Dr. Adriana Cruz (she made my bridges):
(52) (55) 52033868 (office phone; she speaks English, her assistant may not).

@maxdancona,
No personal experience but everything I've heard from people who've had dental work done in Mexico has been positive. They're mostly all educated and trained at U.S. dental schools, for Pete's sake.
