Anti Virus protection

If I use MSN email is there any anti-virus software that will protect me? AVG doesn't cover MSN email (although their site doesn't, as far as I could tell, mention the fact), and I am beginning to wonder about Norton.

If neither of these is effective against email viruses do they protect against other intrusive stuff? If not, can annyone suggest the name of some other software that I could use?

In fact, what exactly should I expect of an AV program - this sounds stupid, but I wonder whether I've just been lucky all these years, not properly protected at all! Embarrassed Rolling Eyes Confused

Doesn't MSN automatically scan emails using McAfee VirusScan? Hotmail does, at least.

Yes, MSN does scan email but aren't there other non-email intrusions that can mess up your computer? If so, do programs like Norton and AVG protct against them regardless of whether your email is Web-based or POP-3? Or is the MSN scanning sufficient? Confused
