An American ice-hockey star has unconventionally rejected a state invitation to visit the White House and President Obama.
Tim Thomas, currently one of the top players in the US' National Hockey League has surprised punters by rejecting an invitation to the White House.
Thomas was invited, along with his Boston Bruins teammates, after they won the Stanley Cup playoffs, one of the most important competitions in the league.

...

'I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.
'This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.
'Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.
'This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic.'

@JTT,
The Daily Mail isn't exactly unbiased, it's a tawdry right wing rag that is always printing horror stories about immigrants. I suspect there's some right wing agenda here, she may well be refusing to go to the White House for the exact opposite reasons you'd refuse to go.

'he', Izzy, not 'she'. He's the top goalie for the Boston Bruins. I'm not completely sure of all Thomas's reasons, but you have to admire his resolve. Most people would just do the suck up.

I just grabbed the DM as the source. The story was pretty much the same in all the sources.

@Region Philbis,
That would have gotten him long long interviews with the CIA, FBI and a paid holiday to Guantanamo.

@JTT,
Sorry, I misread the article, none of these names and initials mean much to me anyway.

@Region Philbis,
that's what Michael Moore said. Listened to an interview with him yesterday in his role as a new governor with the Academy Awards and his efforts to change how documentaries are selected for awards.

Brent asked him what he thought about this - he asked if Brent thought he'd have been dumb enough to turn down an invitation to the Bush White House. He'd have gone - to see the White House and to say something in his 10 seconds of 1 on 1 with the President.
