I'm new to this forum so I apologize if this question is in the wrong place or has been asked before. I am using Outlook 2003. I and my friend had installed Outlook together 4 years back. All of a sudden his Outlook started giving errors and was not accessible. To make Outlook work he formatted his system and installed Outlook again. I dont want to face this problem as i have many important mails and contacts store on my Outlook. Is there any way to avoid failing of Outlook.

@sycamore,
The best idea is to keep constant backups of your emails to personal folders (.pst files) that can be saved off of your computer on DVD's or USB drives.

Here's a link on how to do it along with some other helpful ideas:

@sycamore,
Hi,

There are number of good methods to avoid Outlook corruption. Some of these are as follow:
- Avoid abruptly closing your Outlook application.
- Avoid abnormal shutdown of computer system.
- Check your hardware and software for any issue.
- Make your system virus free.
- Make the size of the Outlook .pst file small or manageable as this file has the size limitation of 2 GB.
- Also most importantly you should always have the Backup of your Outlook mailbox.

Regards
Jane
