Punky mostly plays with her new ones for a few days, but loses interest. The one exception is a certain rubber chicken that she has kept for months.

I wash that chicken, but it does no good. - She will come up and drop it on my lap. Then we wrestle over it a while, getting liberal squeaks out of it.

I want her to have a happy time of it, as I am her only all the time companion. That's one reason I don't restrict her digging. When I am not there, what else has she to do?

If digging & torturing her squeaky chicken make her happy, then it's all for the good, I say!

(I wonder if there are any more squeaky chickens where that one came from? If so, maybe buy up the lot, for the future.)

Yes, I have one hidden in reserve. The most expensive squeaky toy we bought for her lasted less than fifteen minutes. These chickens cost over $6 but are well worth it.
