Despite my job role, it's not something we think about greatly, but I'm sure the power control guys do. (surges that is)
I leave my laptop on standby mode - I dont have the patience to boot it up everytime I go online. I have a surge protecter attached to my mains - plus I have one for my laptop as well.
And if it does go kaput due to lightening - I have it insured as well :p
Gautam- Since I got my new computer, it seems so fast to me, that I don't mind the wait for bootup. I once attempted to put it into "hibernation" mode, but it froze, so the hell with that!
